Fashion and beauty industries have undergone major changes since the corona crisis began. Masks have become almost essential to our wardrobes, and some people haven’t touched makeup in weeks. While lipstick sales have dwindled, online searches for eye makeup and skincare have soared. Beauty experts and bloggers, too, are coming up with makeup looks to go with face masks.
Skip unnecessary layers
Beauty experts suggest skipping layers of foundation and contour. “Just do some spot concealing wherever required,” says makeup artist Kuhu Guptaa. However, if you do wish to apply foundation, Korean beauty experts suggest applying a thin layer, patting with a makeup sponge to help it sink in, and skipping straight to the eyes.
Use smudge-proof makeup Not only will your makeup be smudged, your mask will also get spoilt if you don’t set your makeup the right way. “For smudge-resistant makeup, use a beauty sponge to press powder into the skin. You can also use a gripping primer underneath to give it a strong base,” suggests Kuhu. As for lips, Kuhu says, “Use transfer-proof options like a liquid lipstick or a lip stain. Apply some liquid lipstick and smudge it on the entire lip before it sets. This will look natural and last long.” If you’re wearing foundation, beauty experts suggest using a waterproof option or sealing it with a good setting spray.
Spend more time on skincare
Right now, because you’re not wearing much makeup, there’s a whole lot of time you can devote to skincare. Wearing a mask all day can lead to sweating, breakouts and dry skin issues, say experts. Makeup artist Komal Gulati says, “Before wearing your mask, use a milk or oil-based cleanser, followed by an aloe vera-based toner and a moisturiser. Mask can cause sweating, so if your skin is prone to acne, avoid oil based moisturisers.”
Experiment with eye makeup
Makeup bloggers are experimenting with eye looks now more than ever. “Since masks have become a necessity, you can focus just on eye makeup. Use waterproof products like liner and mascara. Avoid using mascara on lower lashes as it can crease under the eye if you sweat,” says makeup artist Komal Gulati. Makeup artist Kuhu Guptaa adds, “This is the time to experiment with eye makeup. Go bold and try colourful looks and smokey eyes.”
