On Thursday, representatives of the National Restaurant Association Of India (NRAI) met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In the meeting, they discussed issues like employment pay support for lower-end employees and requested an immediate processing of refund for all pending income tax claims at the earliest to provide liquidity support, among other things, sources informed us. The source added that they also requested a policy ensuring that all licencing authorities across the nation should be requested to extend the current tenure of licence by 12 months, with no additional payment of fee. The NRAI team that met the Finance Minister comprised NRAI President Anurag Katriar, restaurateurs Rahul Singh, Riyaaz Amlani and Anjan Chatterjee. The meeting lasted for over half an hour and restaurateurs got an opportunity to discuss major issues they are facing to restart businesses post lockdown.
Earlier, the NRAI had expressed disappointment over not being included in the central government’s stimulus package to deal with the losses incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
