Twitter is abuzz with a hashtag today, #SareeTwitter and women across India are posting pictures to go with the hashtag. And, no prizes for guessing that the pictures are beautiful.
The hashtag began on Monday and started trending soon enough and now, women are using the opportunity to post their favourite sari photo. Not just that, now celebrities and women politicians have joined the bandwagon and are sharing their favourite pictures of the beautiful nine yard garment.
Here’s a little something for our international readers – a saree, sari or shari is a women’s garment from India that consists of a drape which varies from five yards to 9 yards in length and two to four feet in breadth.
Saree is traditionally worn with a bodice (a blouse or a choli) and a petticoat. The styling of a sari involves it to be wrapped around the waist with one end of the garment drapes over the shoulder revealing the midriff.
The beautiful drape has now become a style statement with popular celebrities taking pride in donning the ensemble with great panache.
