Few tennis players boast a physique as impressive as Rafael Nadal but it seems hours in the gym are NOT the secret to his ripped look.
The Spaniard cruised into the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday, beating qualifier Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
Nadal cut short his 2021 season because of a foot injury and also tested positive for coronavirus before Christmas, prompting fears he may not be in the best shape for the first Grand Slam of the year.
But the 20-time Grand Slam champion showed no signs of lacking fitness in his second-round win and looked in great physical shape which prompted tennis legend Jim Courier to ask him about the secrets to his fitness.
‘I play some golf,’ Nadal replied as the crowd laughed.
‘Well, honestly, and that’s the truth. I never have been a gym guy, you know. I am not a big fan of the gym. I am more a fan of playing sports, different sports.
‘Since a couple of years ago with the knees, then with the foot, I was not able to play different sports as I used to do it in the past, and then, of course, today I have to be a little bit more focused on things that probably in the past I was not… I probably work around one hour, one hour 30 minutes every day on the gym, but honestly, you know, I never did a lot of weights, no.
