Dare to bare
From a naked Middle-Eastern massage to a highlighter that brings out your natural glow, these are the reasons we’re going nude this season.
Pot of gold
Always on the hunt for a formula that gives us that my-skin-but-better feel, this month a little white pot from Stockholm-based brand Manasi7, containing a sheer bronzed cream, caught our attention. It’s made with natural ingredients, melts like butter on skin, and makes us feel like we were just kissed by the sun.
We like to surround our skin and hair with love, even in transit. So, we’re packing Dame Essentials’ rose-gold travel pillow and eye mask in our carry-on, and letting the anti-allergic mulberry silk show us TLC while we journey. Plus, we don’t have to worry about frizz taking over our tresses after every nap.
Naked in Morocco
“Down the narrow winding lanes of Fez medina stands Palais Amani, a luxury riad nestled in the heart of the old town. I chose to visit their spa for my first ever hammam experience. It all begins in a warm hammam chamber—covered in colourful mosaics and moodily lit by lanterns and candles, it’s exactly the place I want to be after a hectic three days of Beni Ourain shopping. I’m led into a cool room and asked to get naked, something I’ve never done for a spa ritual. But since it’s so steamy in there that I can hardly see, I decided that if I ever want to take it all offfor an experience, then this is my chance. My Royal Hammam starts with a welcome bath with sea salt vigorously massaged to get the blood circulation going. My therapist swiftly moves on to massaging a Ghassoul clay mask through my hair and whole body. Things move fast in a hammam; no comfy beds or plush towels and soothing instrumentals here. A few minutes later, I’m escorted to a warmer room—the whole experience takes place in a series of increasingly warmer chambers, where my therapist bathes me by pouring hot (not scalding!) water over and over again on my body. I’m then lathered up with an olive oil and eucalyptus-infused black Moroccan soap. At this point I’m sweating buckets—an ice-cold, homemade lemonade arrives right on cue. I take a few refreshing sips and lie down on a heated marble bed to soak up the steam. Another bath is followed by a head-to-toe scrubbing with a bath mitt—I’m pretty sure that every last bit of my dead skin met its fate that day. A full-body Ghassoul clay mask wraps things up and a final bath later you feel reborn. The whole ritual is more about cleansing than pampering; it’s the most thorough bath you’ll ever have in your life!”—Nidhi Sharma Punjabi
Smells like spring
Roja Dove’s Elixir is a glorious bouquet of lily of the valley, geranium, rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, heliotrope and violet. There’s warmth from cedar and sandal, juiciness from peach and raspberry. The result? A trail that will stay on for a long, long time.
Mad for matte
Just in: Organic Riot
An anti-pollution cream, a zit-zapping gel, an anti-pigmentation potion, and a blend for ignored areas, like the elbow—this skincare brand knows the needs of today. And has an impressive ingredient list, too—anti-bacterial manuka essential oil from New Zealand, and healing taman oil from Fiji… Plus, it’s vegan, cruelty-free and comes in non-toxic packaging, making it very hard for skincare snobs such as us to say no. But then, Organic Riot, you had us at “anti-pollution cream”
Did you smile today?
Flashing that megawatt smile in the spotlight requires confidence that can only come from a set of pearly whites. Let’s start with trying what the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are into—HiSmile’s pastel pink paste. Besides the fact that it’s vegan and packed with delicious natural ingredients like aloe vera, spearmint oil, echinacea and tea tree oil, we don’t mind waking up to its minty pink experience every morning.
Thirty-one-year-old techy Sharon Rabi proves beauty with brains leads to many benefits. Her latest creation, Dafni Allure, the cordless hair straightening comb, turns frizzy, unruly hair shiny and silky. Rabi explains how it works.
Think of it as science’s way of letting you travel with a head full of wanderlust, not frizz. While at it, also turn a mundane everyday activity like combing your hair into a pro-styling situation. Dafni is a brush-iron hybrid “whose 3D surface is four to eight times that of a flat iron, making it a safer option. The cordless version, Dafni Allure, uses lithium ion batteries (the same ones used by premium electric cars) and has a super-fast charger. It can style up to three full heads on a single charge,” says Rabi.
It’s simple: you brush slow and easy and take medium sections of hair, about four times of what you would with a professional iron. “Make sure the hair gets deep inside the brush, and always use it on dry hair,” she further explains.
It can curl, too! “If you’re looking for more texture, bend the hair on the back of the brush for beautiful soft waves. Use this trick only on the end of the strands if you are looking to get a round finish. Bend inwards/outwards accordingly. It is also very easy to back-comb for volume,” says Rabi.
